Cultivating in Gansu: a green miracle on the Loess Plateau

Featured Cases 1.1.jpg

Between 2016 and 2024, four stress-tolerant soybean varieties were successfully developed by Prof. Lam’s team and were extensively deployed across a 2,000 km region of the Loess Plateau in Gansu Province. This represents a monumental agricultural revolution and a win-win practice for both environmental sustainability and economic growth:

  • 100,000 hectares of Land Restoration

Cumulative cultivation reached 100,000 hectares, breathing new life and vitality into arid, degraded lands.

  • 100,500 tons of Carbon Reduction

Through natural biological nitrogen fixation, our crops achieved a cumulative reduction of 100,500 tons of CO2 equivalent — our solid green support to the Earth.

  • RMB 120 million of Targeted Poverty Alleviation

Generated income of RMB 120 million for local farming households, lifting communities and improving livelihoods through the power of technology.

Case 2:
Lighting up the Belt and Road: the Pakistan soybean project & female empowerment

Our vision has never been limited by geographical borders. To address global food security challenges, Prof. Hon-Ming Lam’s research team extended their reach internationally, establishing a profound cross-border collaboration with Pakistan.

We introduced our elite, stress-tolerant soybean germplasms to the high-temperature and arid regions of Pakistan for adaptive cultivation, achieving fruitful results. Highly lauded by local scholars, this initiative carries profound social significance that triggers meaningful systemic changes:

  • Empowering women: by driving localized soybean cultivation and agricultural processing, we create sustainable employment opportunities and economic independence for rural women in developing regions, largely elevating their social status.

  • National food self-sufficiency: assisting Pakistan in establishing a domestic soybean crop supply chain, significantly reducing reliance on imports, and marking a historic step toward sovereign food security.
